My Favorite April Fool's Prank

For April Fool’s Day, I would drop a giant water balloon on my friend's car. The water balloon will be on top of a building. I would wait for him to pull into the spot. He will get out of his car, and then I would release the balloon. He would see the water balloon burst all over his car! ~ Grant

On April Fool’s Day, people like to prank other people, but my prank was to prank my dogs. I would make a fake squirrel filled with confetti and peanut butter. When one of my dogs, Sparky, notices it he will run at it full speed. My other dog, Daisy, will follow, and they will begin chomping on it, Confetti will explode in their faces. ~ Jack K.

On April 1, 2023, it is April Fool's Day. I have this elaborate plan made to trick my friends. I plan on doing this prank where I’m going to buy a huge teddy bear, big enough for me to fit in. I’m going to take all the stuffing out, and I'm going to get inside of it.  After I get inside it, my friend will stuff the teddy bear as much as possible with the stuffing and zip it back up. When my friends walk in one by one, they will be surprised by the teddy bear. They will sit there waiting for me. All of a sudden, I, the bear, begin to move. One friend thought they saw me, the bear,  This shocked all my friends. Then I got up and chased them. They were so surprised I had pulled this plan off. They said this was one of the best pranks ever. Happy April Fools. ~ Stratton

April Fool's Day is celebrated on April 1st each year. It is celebrated by playing pranks on other people. One epic April Fool's prank would be an unplanned game of hide and seek. The night before you write a note explaining the game of hide and seek. You then also hide in your planned place which will be hard for people to find you. In the morning, they wake up and see the note and not you. They will begin to look for you. You should also move around to different spots sneakily, so you are not easily found. Once they begin to get freaked out you jump out of your hiding place and yell, “April Fools!”  ~ Maliyah

April 1st, also known as April Fool’s Day, is a day to play tricks and pranks. This prank may be a bit extreme but that's what makes it epic! To pull off this prank you need help from someone or a few people. Before you begin, make sure this person has tiles. The prank may take a while so make sure the person you are pranking is distracted for a bit. First, you’ll need to remove whoever's mattress you’re going to prank. Switch out the mattress for a kiddie swimming pool, making sure it's a similar size to his or her bed. Fill the kiddie pool with water but don't overfill it. Put back on the sheets and covers of the bed trying your best to make it look as it was before. I recommend taking a picture of the bed before just to be sure it looks right. Also, make sure that the person’s room has doesn't have anything in it that can be damaged by water to remove it. Once the prank is set, get the person in the room. When they jump on the bed, he or she will go into the pool instead. April Fools! ~ Sophiana

April Fool's Day is on April 1. One epic prank would be telling your sibling that they have school when it is a holiday. You need to tell them that they have school if they do not believe you, it's all a part of the plan. Then you go to an online paper like Google Docs and turn it into an email that looks like it came from the principal. Show them the email and if they STILL don't believe you, do one more step. Have someone act like they are the principal and call and tell them that there is school. That's an epic April fool's prank. ~ Gage

This April 1st I will attempt to scare my brother. First, I will change the alarm on my Amazon echo to wake him up. Next, I will grab my life-sized joker cardboard cutout. After that, I will make sure I have everything ready. Then, I will wait for the alarm to go off. Finally, the alarm will go off, and put the cardboard cutout beside his bed. It will be the first thing he sees, and I will scare my brother! This is my April Fool’s Day prank. ~ Calen

April Fool's Day is on April 1st. On that day people normally prank their mom, dad, siblings, friends, and family. One epic prank is the beach towel prank. This year I'm doing this prank while I am at the beach. I will be digging a big hole and putting a towel over it. When sister lies on the towel, she will fall into the hole. It will be very funny! ~ Alandria

I would start off the day by pranking someone by putting egg yolks into some orange juice and telling him to drink it. Another thing I would do is by making a metal whistle and put it on my Dad’s truck exhaust pipe making it go whistling down the road. The next thing I would do is put a string attached to the bathroom sink handle and when whoever went to wash their hand first would get covered in feathers and confetti. These are the pranks I would do on April Fool's Day. ~ Rush

One epic prank is having a big water balloon drop on you. I will be pranking my sister by getting her outside and dropping a water balloon on her. I found a balloon big enough to put water in it. After putting water in the balloon, I’ll place it down somewhere she won’t see it. I will be on the top of my deck. When she walks out, I will drop the balloon on her. April Fool’s!! ~ Kelly

Each year on April 1st, people do pranks. One epic prank is to put dye in gum. You could get a block of gum that is colored and put dye in it. I would bring the gum to school. Everyone loves gum. Ask people if they would like to try this new gum. When they start chewing it, their teeth will become the color of the dye! When they smile, all you will see is the color of the dye. It will stay on until it wears off ~ Bryant Luke

April Fool's Day is on April 1st and people prank their friends and family. This year I have an idea of the most epic prank ever. I’m going to use my old slime tools to make a bucket of slime. To make the slime I need glue and contact solution. Once I make the bucketful of slime, I'm going to put it at the top of the door. My brother always goes to the bathroom in the morning, so when he walks in, he will get splashed with slime. He’s going to shower the slime off so next, I’m going to fill his shampoo bottle with hair dye, specifically the color pink, a bright pink. He will have bright pink hair for a while. This prank will be my best! ~ Rylie

April 1st is one of the most widely celebrated unofficial holidays. One idea for an epic April Fool’s Day Prank would be bringing a fart machine to school. I would start playing it whenever the teacher started talking. I think this would be an epic prank to pull anywhere, but it would be the funniest at school.
April Fool’s ~ James R.

One student at Holy Rosary decided to pull a prank on April 1st, 2023. A student wanted to pull an epic prank, so he decided to put sticky notes in one of his teacher's rooms. He decided to put sticky notes all over her desk, so she could not even see them! Her desk and chair were covered. That was epic. He said, “April Fool’s”. ~ Dean

April 1st is April Fool’s Day. This April Fools I’m going to scare my little brother by wearing a mask, turning off the lights, and hiding behind the door. I’m going to call him and then hide. When he comes inside, he will be confused and doesn’t know where I am.  I am going to jump out and scream his name in a scary way. After that, I’m going to chase him and say, “I’m going to take you with me.”  I am going to have traps set up with pictures of scary creatures around the living room and my room. My mom will probably get mad at me for pranking my little brother. I think it will be the best prank I’ve done on my little brother, and I think it will be worth it. ~ Yasiel

April Fool’s Day is the first day of April. One epic prank would be to fake spray paint my Dad’s Mustang. First, I will buy some fake spray paint or car sticker paint. While my dad is at work, I will start spray painting my dad mustang. When My Dad got home, he went to the garage to see the mustang and then he saw the spray-painted mustang. He will be so mad until I tell him it was a prank. He would be mad at me, but he was happy his mustang was not destroyed. This would be an epic prank. ~ Hayden

My victim would be my brother, Emiliano. In the morning, I would wait until he left his room for breakfast so l could put a banana peel inside his room. After breakfast, I would run to my room to watch it happen. Emiliano would go into his room and slip on the banana peel. Furious, he would run into my room to get me and then run into some invisible tape. He would go into the supply closet to get some scissors, which will cause a bucket filled with water balloons to fall on him. He will get soaked and the floor will get slippery. He will slip and fall, and I will laugh so hard, I might run out of air. Then, I would say “April Fools." ~ Miguel

April Fool’s Day is on April 1, and people prank each other in wacky ways. One epic prank would be to make every seat in a room whoopi cushioned secretly and camouflage them so nobody could see them. My friends and I were pulling a prank on the school. Our plan was to boobytrap every seat in our homeroom for April 1st. We would sneak into the school with our bags full of whoopi cushions and plant them on every seat but with a special device that camouflaged them. The way it worked would be to have a plate on the seat connected to a pressure sensor with the whoopie cushion on the bottom. The way it works is when the pressure sensor feels a certain amount of force it would open the whoopie cushions opening and make the fart noise. As people started to sit down for class we heard a beautiful noise, the whoopie cushion sound. When we went into the classroom, we saw confused students. The April fool’s prank was the greatest of all time. ~ Charlie

This year I will have an Epic April Fool’s Day prank.  I will go to a store and buy all of their cheapest toilet paper. Then I would go to the biggest neighborhood I could find and roll every house. Every inch of the yard would be covered in each house. It would look like it was covered in snow. After I rolled the houses, I would get their garden hoses and spray the water on the toilet paper to make it stick to the trees and make it harder to get down. ~ Thomas D.

My April Fool’s prank this year will be epic! It will start the day before when I go to Kroger. I will buy my supplies. First, I buy icing and replace the toothpaste with icing. I put the icing in the toothpaste bottle and then wait until my parents brushed their teeth. I woke up to my mom screaming asking who messed up the toothpaste. I then ran to the bathroom and said April Fools! My mom joined my team, and we waited for my dad to brush his teeth. He brushed his teeth and spit it out! Then my mom and I screamed, “April Fools"! ~ Preston

April Fools is a day when people play pranks on their friends and family. It takes place on April 1st. I love April Fool’s Day. This year I am going to fill up the whole house with balloons so nobody can see anything. I am going to do it after everyone goes to sleep and then they will be surprised in the morning. Everyone will get up and step on the balloons. The balloon will pop and scare them!  It will take a lot of time and effort, but I am willing to do it. ~ Levi

I'm known for always going the extra mile on April Fools. This year, I have something even bigger planned.  I want to prank not just some random kids from my class. I want to prank all Middle School.  I was going to pretend to be a substitute teacher for the sick teacher. It was brilliant! My new friend was going to help with the outfit, makeup, and the complications with the principal. I came into the school and announced that I was the substitute teacher. I went upstairs to Middle School. I introduced myself and taught classes. I did it; no one knew it was me. I fooled everyone! ~ Rose

One epic prank is putting multiple dolls in the cabinets and acting like they are teleporting the pop confetti canon. I will set this prank up by putting voices in the dolls in each cabinet to act like they are moving. Then make the voices circle around them. In the morning I will close the blinds so it will be dark and once someone walks in my prank will start. They will look around for the noise. Once they get close. I make another talk. I will make this a repeating cycle until they are in the middle of the room. Then I will pop out and say, “April Fool’s Day!” with a confetti canon and run away so I don’t get chased. ~ Jacob

April Fools’ Day has been celebrated for centuries with funny jokes, but I had something better in mind. This was a great day; I was going to trick my dad. He woke up one morning late after I had turned off his alarm. I switched the times in the house. Everyone had left to think he was alone. My dad decided to run some errands, yet all the stores were closed. He tried to call Joseph, my mom, and me but no one answered. He went to the gym again, but no one was there. It was “closed.” Something seemed off to him though, all of the places said “OPEN” in bold letters.  He wondered what had happened. What was going on? He went home, and we were all asleep. I woke up and said, “April Fools!” ~ Marie

Just in on YouTube News…..April 1st, 2023: Ohio has seceded, yes seceded from the US. “We will work hard to keep it contained.” said current US President Joe Biden. “They will invade the world if we don’t stop them”, said music artist, now prime minister of Canada, Drake. “We were tired of the US oppressing our Ohioan heritage,” said Lebron James, the now president of Ohio. “We’re going to take over the world.” said famous Ohio resident Logan Paul. Ohio has now declared war on the entire world, and it will be a hard-fought war. Please support us in our fight against Ohio and all its tomfoolery. April Fools! ~ Jack H.

It was April 1st, April Fool’s Day. My siblings and I were planning to prank my mom and youngest brother. While setting up the Oreos filled with toothpaste, my sister poured out the Windex and fills it with blue Gatorade to match the color. I then move on to putting clear tape around the door, so Ryan will walk into it. We had set it up so perfectly. When the time came for them to come into the house, I opened the door and water fell on my head. My sister slips on soap on the floor, and my brother opened a box and fake cockroaches flew out at him. Ryan and my mom had pranked us. It was the best April Fools' Day ever, and I can’t wait to have another one. ~ Lissie

It’s the first of April, prank day, and we have it all planned out. We have four trucks filled with toilet paper rolls. We put two people in each truck and drive them to each side of the house. We got some toilet paper launchers from Amazon that we loaded into the trucks because none of us could throw a roll of toilet paper over the whole building. We loaded the launchers at 3:00 and waited.  At exactly 3:10 we started blasting toilet paper all over the White House. We covered it in so much toilet paper, that security could not get to us! As we drive away, I look back at the mess and laugh. Happy April Fool's Day! ~ James B.

April first is considered April Fool’s Day, where people play funny pranks on each other, one year following the next. After Easter, my family and I always have chocolate left over, and I am going to use that to my advantage. I was thinking I would take the chocolate out of the foil and replace it with a grape instead. Then, I would fill the candy bags with plastic cockroaches, and I would complete it with the shock things, and it would surely get them. When they get home from school or anywhere they have been, I will offer them one of the “chocolates”. ~ Genna

On April Fool’s Day, I switched my brother's protein bars with dog treats. By taking out the bars from the wrappers and putting them in containers. Then I put the dog treats in the wrappers and sealed them. When he came back from his workout, he ate one of them, and he was disgusted. Then I came out from behind the door and said April Fools! ~ Thomas H.

April Fool’s Day is a day in the year when people prank each other. I personally do not like April Fool’s Day AT all, and it's all because of my aunt. My aunt is completely coo-coo. When my mom was a child, she said how the whole day of the year she was completely harassed by her all day. Every time she visits, she does it to us. It was so bad last year we said if she did it again, she'd be banned from ever visiting us again. So this year, I have a plan to completely ban her from my house forever by making everyone think my aunt did a lot these pranks. I got my parent’s mattress and put in the pool. When they got into bed, they'd freak out and fall into the pool. Then I’d put silly string all over each doorway so people would walk into the silly string. I will take the extra step to get some clothes ONLY my aunt would wear like feathered scarfs and put glitter in them. Then I set up my room to have soap and water all over again to make it look like I was fooled too. I did kind of enjoy pranking my family. ~ Ireland

April 1st is considered April Fool’s Day. This is the story of the most epic prank of them all. I got a doll head and an RC car, and I put them together to make an automated RC car. When I heard my dad call that he was off the call, we were free to come downstairs. I then moved downstairs and planted the car in his drawer. I then hurried back upstairs and waited for him to sit back down. When I heard him sit back down, I sat in my room and got on the controls. I went forward a bit to move the drawer. He immediately checked the drawer it was in, and I turned the car on and drove out of the drawer. My dad almost fell out of his chair, and I came down and asked what the problem was. He said that there was a doll car that drove out of his drawer.  I pulled out the controller, and it drove to me as I screamed “APRIL FOOLS!” ~ Cooper

On April Fools people play jokes and pranks on each other which usually are funny. One epic April Fool's prank is that one time I paid the news to prank my sister Marie. I went to the local news headquarters and gave them most of my money to prank my sister. I told them that I needed a breaking news article about how jeeps, Marie's favorite car, were being banned from Tennessee. This is the car she wants! The newscaster accepted the cash, so I spent a couple of days writing a script, and it turned out to be great. I also photoshopped backgrounds for the news article. On April Fool’s, I turned on the news at about the time she started watching TV. The news broadcast was about to be on. We ate breakfast and that's when I got pranked because the food was for some reason modeling clay with dyed corn syrup instead of my pancakes and yellow stuffing instead of my eggs, and it was pretty funny. Now the news was on, and Marie was shocked about what she had said she was really wanting a Jeep. She was thinking about what she could do. The news then told me to say something to her and the news and I told her and everyone else watching! ~ Joseph

This April I will do the best prank. I will be in a cabin in the woods with my friends. When we go on a hike, there will be something strange in the woods.  It will be one of my other friends who acts sick, so he didn't go on the trip. He will make noises in the woods. My friends will be very scared, but they will try to ignore the noise. My friend will bring a giant bug costume because all of my friends don’t like bugs. While he was making the noises, he started to move closer and closer to us. Then once it got closer and closer my friends started to get more and more scare. We will connect multiple speakers around the forest that play bug noises. Then my friends will want to leave. When we start to walk back, my friend jumps out of the bushes and started to chase us. Once we get back to the cabin, I will tell them it was a prank! ~ Mason

One epic prank that I'm going to do is for my stepbrother. I am taking his four-wheeler and hide it. I will take it to the woods and camouflage it will leaves and grass. When he goes to get it, he will search all over. April Fools! ~ John

I set up pranks around the house for my family. I put peanut butter around my kitchen floor. When my family walks through, it will be sticky. I will wrap my mom's car in saran wrap. She will not be able to get in without unwrapping the door! ~ Judd

On April Fool's Day, my family and I had an epic prank planned for my mom. We were going to give her a lottery ticket. We will make the ticket with winning numbers. When the day came, we gave her the lottery ticket at dinner and turned on the fake TV show that my friend and I made a while before with fake props. When it said her number, we all celebrated, but then have to tell her, “April Fools.” ~ Robert

I get to a house, and we got toilet paper. To make it epic, we will TP the outside and inside of the house.  First, we put that toilet paper all over the inside of his house like in the bedroom, the living room, the kitchen, and the bathroom. Once we finished the inside, we do the outside of his house. So, we covered the trees, the mailbox, and the entire backyard. When he got home, he couldn't even get inside his house because we covered the front door and the backdoor. Then we all yelled April Fools! ~ Colin

For April Fool’s Day, I would drop a giant water balloon on my friend's car. The water balloon will be on top of a building. I would wait for him to pull into the spot. He will get out of his car, and then I would release the balloon. He would see the water balloon burst all over his car! ~ Grant

April 1st is April Fool's Day. The prank is going to be on my dad. My mom and I are going to cover the yard with tinfoil and tp the house. The reason we are doing the yard is that he cares a lot about the yard. The first thing we did is bought six rolls of tinfoil and a pack of toilet paper. Then we waited till he left. Once he left, we grabbed the rolls and started covering the yard and threw the toilet paper on the trees. We also set a camera up to see his reaction. When he got home, we started laughing hard because he was all mad and said, “Did one of your friends do this?”. Then we told him “Happy April Fool's Day” - Madelyn

A Hands-On Environment that Solves Real-World Problems

Here at Holy Rosary, we use a STEM curriculum called Project Lead the Way (PLTW).  PLTW is a project-based curriculum that creates a hands-on environment that helps students develop knowledge and skills they need to solve real-world problems.  The modules that they work on start with three activities that build their knowledge. They then move on to a project that is guided and helps them to implement what they have learned in the activities.  The final step is a real-world problem that the students work together in groups to solve.  It is an open-ended problem, and they must follow the Engineering Design Process to come up with a solution and test it out.

PreK4 students are learning about floating and sinking.  The final problem for them to solve will be to design a boat that will float across water and keep a message on it dry.

Kindergarten classes are learning about the amount of force necessary to push or pull heavy and light objects. Their final problem will require them to make something that will move rocks from one side of the room to another.

First grade is studying animal adaptations and how we learn from these adaptations to make things that help humans.  For their final problem, they will design shoes to be worn in a certain environment.

Second grade students are learning about properties of matter.  They have conducted experiments to test the insulation properties of certain materials.  For their final problem they must design and make something that will keep a frozen popsicle cold when placed under a heat lamp for 30 minutes.

Third grade is learning about simple and compound machines.  They have built models of levers, inclined planes, pulleys, and vehicles with wheels and axles.  Their final problem requires them to design and build a compound machine that can get a plastic tiger out of a moat and safely back in its zoo enclosure.

Fourth grade classes are studying energy and collisions.  They have built vehicles and tested how far they travel down ramps of different heights.  They have also tested them in a variety of collisions.  Their final problem will have them designing and building a restraint system to add to the vehicle that will keep an egg safe when the vehicle travels down a ramp and hits a wall.

Fifth grade is learning about Earth’s water and interconnected systems.  They are researching ways to clean dirty water and remove salt from saltwater.  Their final problem involves them designing and making a water filtration system to clean dirty water or to make a solar still to remove the salt from saltwater.

Sixth grade is learning about different forms of energy.  They have designed and are now testing wind turbine blades.  They will also be learning about heat transfer and will design a dwelling that uses less energy for heating and cooling, build a prototype and test it.

Seventh grade students are learning to be medical detectives.  They are studying how diseases are transmitted, how our nervous system works, and how doctors diagnose diseases.  In the upcoming weeks, they will be dissecting a sheep brain.  They will also be growing bacteria and learning about the effectiveness of antibiotics.

Eighth grade is studying flight and space.  They have learned about how planes fly and move through the sky. They have also studied drones and flown them.  In the coming weeks they will be learning about space travel including how rockets work, how astronauts prepare for space travel and how they live in space, and the future of space travel to Mars.

Confessions of a Preschool Teacher

What is it like to be a preschool teacher?  Oh, my, how much time do you have?  It is truly a calling that can only be answered by teachers whose passion is all about the little children and seeing them learn, grow and thrive.  I would love to tell you that it is all sunshine and rainbows, but it is not, and that is ok.  Preschool teachers know that every day won’t be a day for the record books, but it is those challenging days, the ones where you think that there is no way these kids and I are going to make it to May, that make the days of seeing a child's eyes light up because they got it, they understand what I am teaching.  Sometimes, it is just seeing lessons being implemented by the children on their own that makes it all worth it.  Seeing them sharing, communicating, playing, and being concerned for one another make being a preschool teacher so awesome.

As you probably know, being a preschool teacher is not for the faint of heart.  We have potty accidents, boogers, snot, vomit, and some smells that we never figure out what it is or where it is coming from.  We have tears, we have defiance, we have meltdowns.  But, even through all of the gross stuff, we come back every day and do it all over again, it is our calling.  Some things that we hear and see really keep us going.  Preschool teachers hear it all.  We know what you had for dinner, what you argued about, why you were late to school (the real reason), and if you said a bad word.  We also hear a lot of sweet things, like I love you’s, you’re my favorite teacher ever, and I want to stay here at school forever. The list goes on and on, but here are a few of the things (true things) that we have heard and/or seen in our preschool classes:

Rebecca Macy 2K:

Did you know:  preschool teachers get invited to parties at your house and your friends’ houses too!!!  Even on your vacations!!!!

Did you know: your children do not need smartphones anytime soon- they call you from the vintage Fischer price phones throughout their day!!!!!! They always have good reception too!!!!

Did you know your preschoolers have a lot of love in their hearts? They are known to say, “I love you 1 billion, one hundred 20, 6 million plus 10!!!!  That’s ALOT of love!!

Did you know they are very honest and observant- “is that a spider web in your nose?”

Jennifer Lazarini 3K:

Did you know:  children will lick literally anything, and I mean anything?  I have had to say “stop licking your shoe” more times than I can count.  Hard to believe that so many are picky eaters!

Did you know that an unwritten requirement for teachers is being mind readers?  Students ask for farm animals on an iPad.  He doesn’t want a game with farm animals, nor a video or pictures…..we have to figure this stuff out!!!

Did you know that it is the little things that keep me going?  Seeing a child implement something we have been teaching all year, like how to come in each morning and independently unpack their backpack and put everything away.  Then to see them happily turn to a friend and help them do the same.

Did you know that children are resilient and want to talk about some of the hard things in life?  “Mrs. Jemifur (who knew the name Jennifer is so hard to pronounce?) my cat is dead, and so is my grandpa”.  There are no tears, they just want to talk it out.

Summer Bateman 3K:

Did you know fairies don't actually have tails? While learning about fairytales, a student said "but Mrs. Summer, fairies don't have tails!!!"

Did you know that some preschoolers have playdates with Jesus? During our religion lesson, a student said to me, "Jesus is coming over to my house next week."

Did you know that preschool teachers not only teach your children but learn so much from them as well? I have the best job because my heart is touched on a weekly basis! "While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about."

Roxanne Doyle 4K:

Did you know the average four-year-old will ask 300 questions a day? You never know if the question will pertain to the lesson you are teaching or if they will ask you why they have pockets. Some of my favorite questions I have received from a four-year-old:
Why do we have elbows?
Why is it Tuesday?
Sometimes the question is just Why?

Melissa Wright 4K

Teacher: “Why did you just drink out of someone else’s water bottle?”
Student: “Because his water tastes better”
Teacher: “Why did you bring all of these Barbie dolls to school?”
Student: “ So they can get in the real pool.”
Teacher: “ What pool?”
Student: ......leads teacher to the bathroom and points to the toilet!!!!

Blessed to be a part of The ANGEL Program

My interest in The ANGEL Program began as an observer when I worked with preschool six years ago. Most of those years, an ANGEL teacher was present in the classroom. I was always fascinated and intrigued with the changes and differences that the ANGEL teacher made in the children's lives, in such a small period of time. As soon as the opportunity arose, I jumped at the chance be a part of a team that makes such an impactful difference. ~ Mrs. Candace Davis

I am blessed to be an RBT with The ANGEL Program at Holy Rosary because it is fulfilling on a personal and spiritual level. Personally, my position allows me to offer support in an inclusive environment. As a parent to a child with ASD I know firsthand the importance and impact of early intervention. I also know the need and reward of inclusivity for all. As soon as I learned about the benefits of ABA, I know this was what I wanted to do. Spiritually, I am blessed to be an RBT serving at Holy Rosary ensuring that a Catholic education is accessible to all learners. There is no greater joy in life than to serve in a field that speaks to your heart personally and spiritually and that is why I love being an RBT with The ANGEL Program at Holy Rosary. ~ Mrs. Emily Corbitt

My favorite thing about being an ANGEL teacher is the people! In our program, we’re one big family. Everyone is so supportive, kind, and always there for each other and looking out for what’s best for our families and kids. In the ANGEL program, everyone helps out, and I think it’s so special how open and involved all of our families are. ~ Miss Julia Kersting

This program is special because we get to see our children grow and learn each school year. Even if our children graduate out of the program and or move on with a different staff member, we still get to see their smiling faces in the hallway! I feel like I make a difference with each child and I love that! I like my job because I also really enjoy the team of staff and teachers I work with! ~ Miss Grace Ann Thompson

Working with children has always been a passion of mine. I’m so fortunate to be a part of The ANGEL Program - I found the program out of sheer luck or should I say the program found me? Thanks to that luck and the support from the Holy Rosary community, I’m am now the program’s director. I am very blessed to work with our students - seeing their success with skills they once struggled with is what keeps me going on a daily basis. The ANGEL team we have created is one that I will be forever proud of - they are hardworking and special just like our students. Another reason I love my job is the Memphis Runs for Autism 5K. It is not only a fundraiser for the program, but it is also a celebration and an event that unites us all behind the mission. Every year, I am astounded by the community that comes out to support to our students, the program and our staff. This is why I do what I do! ~ Mrs. Emily Sater

What I like most about my job and The ANGEL Program is the unity amongst the staff, the difference we make, and the children. I appreciate how our staff is like a family; we show it by supporting one another and our children. It’s beautiful to see the progress we make with our kids and how happy it makes everyone: staff and families. We really are like one big family. ~ Mr. Danny Salinas

Reluctantly Heading Back to School

August 12, 2019
By Christine Armour

Sigh. I swear it was just last week that it was Memorial Day weekend and I was hauling my MIF tshirt collection out trying to decide which ones I was going to wear this year. And now I’m hauling uniform shorts out of drawers and forcing them on a very resistant 9- year old only to find out that he had a growth spurt and the stockpile of shorts I had was all for not. Fortunately, the shoe store still had his Merrell’s in stock and we were able to grab the last pairs of shorts in his size at our second stop. A swing by Jerry’s as a reward to him for having a good attitude and a reward to me for the very same reason and we’re home. Mission Accomplished.

The one thing I did at the end of school year before mentally checking out for the summer payed off- I had printed out last year’s school supply list and when he came home with a backpack of school supply leftovers I highlighted what we now had and stashed them away in his backpack ready to go for the next school year. The school supply list may have some changes year to year but it’s usually pretty consistent so this small step saves me a lot of time and money every year.

I’d like to say I was one of those supermoms who meal preps every Sunday for the entire week but I spend my Sunday afternoons either at soccer practice or curled up on the couch with my dogs in bitter denial of the inevitable Mondays. What I do (maybe once a month), however, especially because my kids’ schedules require the planning skills of a D-day invasion, is make enormous quantities of spaghetti sauce, gumbo and crawfish etouffee to freeze in family dinner size portions so that on busy nights all I have to do is throw one out in the morning to defrost and then come home to reheat while making pasta or rice. I also keep the freezer stocked with pork tenderloins to be baked while we do homework or are preparing to go to practice. Brinner- Breakfast for Dinner- is a very popular quick, easy and cheap option. And my devotion to a baked chicken from Costco could be expressed in interpretive dance.

No matter how organized I make the practical side of the start of a new school year, I’m never emotionally ready.  I love having all my little birds in my nest and with one in college, one a senior in high school and one beginning fourth grade I greedily grasp onto each moment I get with them knowing how fleeting this time is. So we’ll probably hit Jerry’s again. And maybe Gus’ and Gibson’s as well. Take the pups to Shelby Farms to watch the sun set on the lake or even just float in the pool and daydream together about next summer.
